Menomonie is a city in and the county seat of Dunn County in the western part of the U.S. state of Wisconsin.[1] The city's population was 16,264 as of the 2010 census. The city is located surrounded on three sides by the Town of Menomonie but it is not part of it.
Together with surrounding communities, the Menomonie micropolitan area was home to 21,900 people as of 2000. The city forms the core of the United States Census Bureau's Menomonie Micropolitan Statistical Area, which includes all of Dunn County (2010 population: 43,857). The Menomonie MSA, together with the Eau Claire metropolitan area to the east, forms the Census Bureau's Eau Claire-Menomonie Consolidated Metropolitan Statistical Area.
The city center is located at the south end of Lake Menomin, a reservoir on the Red Cedar River.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 14.6 square miles (37.8 km²), of which, 12.9 square miles (33.3 km²) of it is land and 1.7 square miles (4.5 km²) of it (11.91%) is water.
A landscape of rippling hills--sharply sculpted enough to qualify as "spectacular," yet green enough and in a small enough scale to feel "nurturing"--can be found at the south and west edges of the community.
As of the 2000 census[3], there were 14,937 people, 5,119 households, and 2,370 families residing in the city. The population density was 1,160.7 people per square mile (448.1/km²). There were 5,441 housing units at an average density of 422.8 per square mile (163.2/km²). The racial makeup of the city was 93.79% White, 0.76% Black or African American, 0.41% Native American, 3.21% Asian, 0.01% Pacific Islander, 0.64% from other races, and 1.18% from two or more races. 1.14% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There were 5,119 households out of which 22.6% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 36.0% were married couples living together, 7.5% had a female householder with no husband present, and 53.7% were non-families. 32.7% of all households were made up of individuals and 11.1% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.35 and the average family size was 2.95.
In the city the population was spread out with 15.5% under the age of 18, 40.4% from 18 to 24, 20.5% from 25 to 44, 12.3% from 45 to 64, and 11.3% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 23 years. For every 100 females there were 99.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 98.6 males.
The median income for a household in the city was $31,103, and the median income for a family was $44,458. Males had a median income of $30,893 versus $21,898 for females. The per capita income for the city was $15,994. About 9.1% of families and 23.5% of the population were below the poverty line, including 16.7% of those under age 18 and 7.3% of those age 65 or over.
Menomonie is the home of the University of Wisconsin–Stout. Also in the city of Menomonie is Menomonie High School and a campus of Chippewa Valley Technical College.
The Menomonie Thunderhawks are a semi-professional football, championship winning team that plays at Don and Nona Williams Stadium at the University of Wisconsin–Stout from late April to late July.
